Washington, D.C. – The board of the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED) announced today that Stephen Glaude, current Director of Community Affairs for District of Columbia Mayor Vincent C. Gray, will succeed Robert Pohlman as Executive Director of CNHED. The appointment follows a comprehensive executive search process that began in January when Mr. Pohlman announced his plans for retirement. Mr. Glaude’s tenure will begin October 27, 2014.
“Steve brings a powerful mix of enthusiasm for and tremendous experience in affordable housing and community economic development work,” says Polly Donaldson, President of CNHED’s board of directors. “These qualities, combined with his association management skills and thorough knowledge of the District, make Steve an exciting choice for deepening CNHED’s impact and charting its future course.”
A native Washingtonian, a father of three, and a proud graduate of Morgan State University, Glaude currently oversees 13 agencies for the Mayor. Prior to that position, he served as Director of Constituent Services for then-DC Council Chairman Vincent Gray. Glaude has led two associations: the National Congress for Community Economic Development and the National Association of Neighborhoods. In between those posts, Glaude worked at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Community Development and as Deputy Undersecretary for Intergovernmental Relations. He then served as Special Assistant to the President in the Office of National Drug Control Policy at the White House. Read his full bio.
“It’s been a tremendous honor to work for Mayor Gray for the last four years as his liaison to community interests and now I am privileged to be taking the reins from such a venerable leader that CNHED has had for the past 15 years in Bob Pohlman,” says Stephen Glaude, “I am committed to the mission of CNHED and look forward to working with all of our partners to spur housing and economic opportunities for the people of the District.”
CNHED will be honoring retiring Executive Director Bob Pohlman at its upcoming event Coalition Strong! A Tribute to Bob Pohlman and CNHED on October 23, 2014.
