Get ready for the Housing Task Force!

Next Monday will be the first of two public hearings of the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force. Created in February by Mayor Gray, this Task Force is responsible for creating a District-wide housing strategy. The Task Force has met through the spring and summer as a whole committee and through working groups such as: Rethinking Local Funding and Creating New Tools for Housing Development. You can see the full list of committees and members on the Task Force website. One of the major goals Mayor Gray has highlighted for the Task Force, is to consider how improving the jobs and wages of District residents would change the need for affordable housing. The Task Force hopes to have recommendations finished by early 2013.What should the District’s housing strategy look like?The Task Force is now holding public hearings to hear from you. Who knows better what DC needs than its residents? This is your time to come out and tell the Task Force what you’re experiencing and what you think DC needs to do.

The Housing For All Campaign encourages all of our supporters to come out to the hearings of the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force. Come to testify or just attend to show your support for affordable housing in the District. Please let us know if you are planning to testify.

To get on the witness list, contact Allison Ladd at (202) 777-1634 or aladd@dchfa.org, and provide your name, organizational affiliation, and title of organization by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012. What to say when you testify

Say where you work (or if you are retired, disabled, a parent, etc).
Say where you live.
Tell your story.
Tell the Task Force what they can do:
The Task Force needs to make a plan to provide affordable housing for people like me. We need a housing strategy that meets the housing needs of all District residents.
