The Coalition for Nonprofit Housing & Economic Development (CNHED), in collaboration with the District of Columbia Office of Planning, is excited to announce the artist selection for the Creative Placemaking project in Ward 7 Neighborhoods. Among several competitive applicants, CNHED has selected the full-service production company CreativeJunkFood, LLC to engage in the development, design and build-out, and programming of community-driven creative placemaking projects at three public sites across Deanwood, Lincoln Heights, Richardson Dwellings and Capitol View.
Founded by Candice Taylor and Nabeeh Bilal in 2010, CreativeJunkFood specializes in animation and video, interactive and public art and digital media. To undertake these three projects, CreativeJunkFood is collaborating with Deborah Jones of the Ward 7 Business Partnership, Tina Whitlow of the Whitlow Foundation and Sarah Cappo of the National Building Museum.

Beginning in January 2020, CNHED sought proposals from artists and artist organizations to engage in creative placemaking that leverages the arts, culture, creativity and design to activate public spaces and improve communities. This work is part of a broader initiative engaging stakeholders and residents in developing a Comprehensive Community Development Model funded by the Office for the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.
CreativeJunkFood and their co-collaborators will engage with community stakeholders and residents in these neighborhoods around site selection, design and programming of three creative placemaking projects between March and June 2020.
